A vital force in the New York City and international Reggae Dub & Dancehall scene since 1979, Robert Mansfield has built an illustrious career as a musician, arranger, and producer. His expertise spans genres, with a deep connection to African popular music, reggae jazz innovation, and ska-reggae fusion.
Over the decades, Robert has collaborated with some of the most iconic artists in the industry. His work includes recording and performing alongside reggae legends Pablo Moses, UB40, Sugar Minot, Ken Booth, Carl Dawkins, and Mikey Dread. He has contributed to projects led by reggae jazz innovator Eugene Grey and the pioneering Wackies Records producer Bullwackie. His musical journey also brought him into creative partnerships with Winston Grennan, Roman & Tinga Stewart, the Melodians, the Blues Busters, Sister Sugus, the Lovejoys, Shelly Thunder, Sleepy Wonder, and Louie Rankin.
Robert's reach extends beyond reggae and dancehall into African popular music, having toured with the legendary Mory Kante. During this tour, he had the honor of performing alongside the groundbreaking artists Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, and Manu Dibango. His collaborations in the South African music scene include working with Aura Msimang, Cosbie & Thami MBele, and producer Patrick Sefalosha of Malopoets.
Further cementing his legacy, Robert co-produced and arranged Terrestrial Spirits by Anguilla folk-reggae poet Bankie Banks, showcasing his versatility and depth as a producer. His ongoing projects include work with Patrick “Electric Dread” Simpson (The Congos / Maxi Priest) and a recently completed album with UK/NYC ska-reggae group The Rudie Crew.
